“@campbell_katy: Just had a great photoshoot with @flixiety. If you need photos…he’s the man!” got some great photos :)

These three guys had the camera in there face ALLOT of the time but they didn’t care, they loved it.
Now to begin with I hated shooting photographs in doors, I had no idea how to use flash properly. I remember sticking a cigarette paper over the pop up flash to diffuse the light.
“Top Tip! A great little home made diffuser for pop up flash that can be made anywhere, cut the handle off a 2 litlre milk cartoon, wash it out, split it along one side and you put this over the pop up flash to diffuse light slightly”
So next thing to do was take the guys out for walk and get some photographs. So out we went walking around Aberdeen regularly and me snapping photographs of those guys.
I straight away fell in love with Natural light. So it was so much better for shooting in and over next few years I was going to learn allot more about shooting in natural light. These days most of my work is in the studio but I still love getting outside for snaps when I can. The weather is obviously very unpredictable in Aberdeen. -

I always had an interest in photography and that comes from my family. Growing up there was always a camera in your face recording everything you were doing!
My gran was a big fan of the video camera while my mum preferred still. I remember going along to the college to help out in the studio for my mum when she was studying photography at Aberdeen College.
I used to love looking at my mums black and white photographs and thats what gave me the bug.In November 2007 I bought my first DLSR, a Nikon d40. I love that camera, could not recommend it enough to someone just starting out.
To begin with I had no idea how to use it! I didn’t no apertures and ISO and things like that. I used to use it on an automatic no flash setting and hope for best :)
My first subjects were my friends and also flatmates - a flat with at one point 5 men living in it, what a disgrace we were - who were more than happy to pose for photography
Here are some of the photographs from back then, meet Dave, Graeme and Graeme. -

I’ve been using Tumblr for a while now and I started all wrong. This blog got neglected for my personal one - http://cigarettes-n-coffee.tumblr.com - and it’s difficult to keep up with so many social networks :)
These days you have facebook, twitter, tumblr, flickr, 500px etc etc It’s hard to keep up with. From now on I am going to concentrate on this.
I’m going to tell the journey of my photography hobby and career. You will find out how I first got into photography and where it has taken me. People I’ve met, things I’ve learned and mistakes I’ve made.
Along with Storys will be regular updates of photographs but rather that just post my new work we are going to start at the beginning. Obviously I can’t post every shoot I’ve done but we will go through the years.
